Exactly 30 years after the first Toy Story movie was released, establishing Pixar as a major film company and bringing viewers to iconic characters like Woody (Tom Hanks) and Buzz Lightyear (the voice talent), who are now famous worldwide.

Coming in 2026, the next chapter is set to arrive. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 appeared recently, offering a glimpse into the storyline but leaving viewers wondering how it will address the ending of Toy Story 4.

The Latest Addition: A Digital Device Spooks the Toys

In the teaser shows the young girl — who received the toy collection when he left for college — getting a latest toy, one that terrifies Woody, Buzz, and the crew. Bonnie gets her first tablet computer, and she is excited about it.

Theoretically, the frog-shaped tablet will animate just like the rest of her playthings. Still, the toys appear to consider it as a danger intending to supplant them, which it likely will.

The Cowboy's Comeback: Mysteries from Toy Story 4

One thing the trailer doesn't touch on is what the sheriff is returned with his companions in Bonnie's room. The finale of Toy Story 4 depicted him set off on a new adventure with Bo Peep (the actress), traveling with a carnival and helping prize toys find good homes.

Certainly, Pixar will explain the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the film. Witnessing him show up in Bonnie's room without warning is somewhat puzzling, however. It also makes us wonder whether his partner will have come back with him. And what about the stuntman toy (Keanu Reeves)?

Connections from the Last Installment

Fortunately, some elements are carrying over from the prior film. The final act the cowboy did before setting off for his new life was pass his symbol of authority to the cowgirl (Joan Cusack), entrusting her in charge of the toy domain. The clip shows the badge attached to her shirt.

Hopefully she is remains the driving force among the toys.
